Lichen on Basalt Windowpane Zapopan in along a frost-edged windowpane in Zapopan

Lichen on Basalt Windowpane Zapopan

by Danielle Trujillo

Frost patterns rest on the edge of a glass pane where a fragment of dark basalt rests. Tiny, pale green lichen colonies spread across the rough volcanic stone, their crusty texture highlighted by warm, midday sidelight streaming from the wet season afternoon. The stone sits firmly against the cool, crystalline edge of the window. Sharp focus reveals the intricate, granular surface of the rock and the delicate, leaf-like structures of the lichen, while the background dissolves into a soft, blurred wash of indoor shadows. The light catches the uneven ridges of the basalt, casting deep, warm crevices that contrast with the bright, frosty white of the glass edge. One grain of dust settles on the highest peak of the lichen.
