Leatherworker’s Bench in Marrakech

by Anthony Lindsay

Under the flat, shadowless noon glare, a leatherworker’s bench reveals a lived-in workspace within a narrow medina workshop. A row of iron tool hooks holds heavy awls and stitching needles, their metal bodies reflecting the harsh overhead light. Beside them, a dented tin box sits open, revealing spools of waxed thread in deep indigo and saffron. The white plaster wall behind shows the sharp, geometric shadow of a peg rail, against the rough, scarred surface of the wooden worktable. A worn leather apron hangs loosely from a hook, its texture emphasized by the direct sunlight.
