Artisan's Workspace in Marrakech

Pale morning light spills across a narrow alley in the Medina, illuminating a stone step where a local artisan pauses his work. Beside his worn leather apron rests a small canvas tool caddy, its pockets bulging with chisels and hammers used for carving cedar wood. Scattered near his feet are irregular mosaic tile fragments in cobalt and emerald, waiting to be set into a zellige pattern. The rough, sun-bleached plaster wall behind him contrasts with the smooth, cool edges of the broken ceramic pieces. One hand towel, stained with clay dust, hangs from a rusted hook above, catching the first direct rays of the sun.
