Ivory Fox Netsuke on Silk in Black Forest Reed Bed
Glistening water droplets rest on the tips of tall reeds in the Black Forest during the monsoon season. A hand-carved ivory netsuke depicting a sleeping fox rests centrally on a folded silk pad placed directly among the wet grasses. The late morning sun reflects off the nearby water surface, casting a soft, cool sheen across the pale ivory and the deep green of the surrounding foliage. The fox figure shows fine chisel marks along its curled tail and closed eyes, against the smooth, lustrous threads of the silk beneath it. Behind the small sculpture, the dense reed bed stretches toward the water's edge, creating a natural frame of vertical lines. One droplet slides down the curve of the fox's ear, catching the reflected light.
