Golden Hour Light on Worn Stone Staircase Cliff

by Evangeline Carpenter

Honey-colored light floods the rough-hewn stone steps carved directly into the vertical cliff face near Pokhara. The worn surfaces of the stairs show deep grooves and smooth patches where centuries of feet have ground the rock. Early spring leaves a sparse dusting of green moss in the crevices between the blocks. Deep shadows pool in the recesses of the staircase, creating a stark contrast against the warm, glowing edges of the steps. The light enters from a narrow opening, illuminating the texture of the aged stone and casting long, angular shadows that stretch across the uneven treads. A small patch of sunlight rests on the lowest step, highlighting the coarse grain of the rock against the dark interior.
