Gobi Chrysanthemums at Ocean Doorway
Golden light washes over a ridge of wind-scoured Gobi sand where chrysanthemums with round pompom heads and spindly spider forms stand in rigid rows. The air hangs thick with low dust, catching the last rays of sunset. Behind the flowers, a vertical stone wall should block the horizon, but a rectangular doorway cuts through the earth, revealing a churning open ocean with whitecaps. The water meets the desert floor at the threshold, creating a sharp line where salt spray would mix with dry grit. Shadows from the spider blooms stretch long and thin across the sand, pointing toward the impossible sea. The pompom heads glow amber against the deepening blue of the water beyond the frame.
