Golden Orb Weaver in Late Spring Reed Bed

Warm amber light floods the edge of a Maryland reed bed as a massive orb weaver spider anchors itself at the center of its silken trap. The spider's golden and black patterned abdomen glows against the intricate geometry of the web, which stretches taut between tall, green reeds. Fine dust particles hang suspended in the low-angle sunlight, creating a visible haze that drifts just above the damp ground. The web's radial threads shimmer with a faint sheen, catching the light while the horizontal capture spirals remain translucent. One dewdrop rests on the lower right spiral, refracting the golden sky into a tiny, sharp spectrum of color.
