Gladiolus Spike on Comoros Cliff at Sunset in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Comoros

Gladiolus Spike on Comoros Cliff at Sunset

by Bette McIntyre

Golden light spills across a single gladiolus spike standing firm against the salt-sprayed cliff edge of the Comoros. The flower stalk rises vertically, its layered petals shifting from deep crimson at the base to soft apricot and pale yellow near the top. Wet season moisture glistens on the green stem, catching the firelight warmth of the setting sun. Behind the bloom, the horizon blurs into a gradient of orange and violet, while the rough, weathered rock surface shows textures of salt and wind erosion. A small, translucent droplet hangs from the tip of the lowest petal, reflecting the dying light before gravity pulls it down.
