Cameroon Sunflowers Cliff Sunset Wet Season in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Cameroon

Cameroon Sunflowers Cliff Sunset Wet Season

by Neil Hines

Rich amber light floods a wide expanse of sunflowers stretching along a rugged cliff edge in Cameroon. The wet season leaves the tall green stalks heavy with dew, their broad yellow petals glowing against the encroaching twilight. Dramatic, dark clouds stack high above, casting long, shifting shadows across the field. Salt spray has whitened the rough stone at the cliff's precipice, against the vibrant, living gold of the blooms. The heads of the flowers turn slightly toward the fading sun, their textured centers detailed in deep brown. Each stem stands firm against the wind, rooted in the earth right up to the crumbling edge of the rock face.
