Frozen Water Droplets Over Lime Kiln at Dusk in on a factory floor near Bamenda

Frozen Water Droplets Over Lime Kiln at Dusk

by Roy Miles

Copper-toned light washes the stone walls of a lime burner's kiln built into a Bamenda hillside. Amber sunset hues illuminate the rough masonry and the industrial factory floor nearby. Low-hanging monsoon clouds press against the horizon, heavy and gray. A splash of water hangs frozen in mid-air before the kiln, every droplet sharply defined and suspended as if time has stopped. The water droplets catch the fading light, creating tiny prisms against the dark stone. Dust settles on the wet ground, reflecting the amber glow. Each droplet remains perfectly still, defying gravity while the stone structure stands solid and unmoving. One drop rests on the edge of a stone block, holding its shape without falling.
