Foundry Cast Iron Silhouettes Sand Dunes Dusk
by Nolan Greer
Rows of heavy cast iron pieces stand in stark silhouette against a copper-toned sky filtering through the high windows of a Gliwice welding bay. The metal surfaces absorb the fading light, appearing as dark, jagged monuments against the glow. A metallic haze hangs low over the concrete, thick and suspended. The floor presents a jarring transition; smooth industrial tiles abruptly give way to rolling sand dunes that stretch into the room. This impossible landscape rises from the workshop floor, burying the legs of the cooling machinery in fine grains. The low angle emphasizes the mechanical severity of the iron forms against the shifting desert floor. Dust motes catch the last light, suspended between the steel and the sand. The boundary between the factory interior and the outdoor dune dissolves into a single, continuous horizon line.
