Brick Kiln Mouth Breathing Heat Into Evening Fog
Rusted steel pipes converge toward the dark, circular mouth of a brick kiln inside a welding bay near Nanning. Thick, wet season fog rests on the corrugated metal roof, diffusing the late-afternoon skylight into a hazy, gray glow. Heat waves shimmer visibly above the kiln opening, warping the air and blurring the brick textures behind the aperture. Dust motes hang suspended in the shafts of light that cut through the industrial gloom. The floor is slick with condensation, reflecting the dull orange glow from within the furnace. Heavy iron doors stand slightly ajar, revealing the intense heat source against the cool, damp atmosphere of the factory interior.
