Fog Drip on Spider Web in Redwood Grove Night

by Kaylee Livingston

A sweeping beam of white light cuts through the pitch-black night, illuminating a delicate spider web strung low between redwood roots. Tiny droplets of condensation rest on the silk threads, glowing like scattered diamonds against the dark backdrop. The coarse, reddish-brown bark of the ancient trees frames the lower left corner, while the fine, wet silk stretches horizontally across the frame. Beads of water hang suspended, catching the edge of the light and reflecting it back in sharp points. The ground below is a soft blur of damp earth and fallen pine needles. One droplet trembles at the very tip of a radial thread, holding the entire weight of the night in its fragile curve.
