Faded Murals in Wadi Al-Seer Cave Temple

by Clinton Moreno

Pale stone walls of the Wadi Al-Seer cave chapel glow with soft, diffused light filtering through stained glass panels. Faded murals in earthy ochres and muted blues depict religious figures, their pigments worn by centuries of stillness. Indirect illumination bounces off the rough, cool-season stone surfaces, casting gentle shadows that deepen the recesses of the carvings. A wooden frame within the stone archway frames the central altar, drawing toward the quiet center. Warm shadows pool in the corners where the light cannot reach, against the cool gray of the rock. The texture of the plaster is cracked and flaking, revealing layers of history beneath the surface colors. One patch of red pigment remains vibrant against the gray stone near the base.
