Fireflies Glow Inside Abandoned Jodhpur Stone Chapel

by Gordon Landers

Warm candle flames flicker against rough, honey-colored sandstone walls of an abandoned chapel in Jodhpur, casting dancing shadows across the floor. Hundreds of fireflies swarm in the center aisle, their tiny green lights punctuating the deepening twilight that bleeds through high arched windows. Polished stone surfaces near the altar reflect the bioluminescent swarm and the soft orange glow of the candles. The architecture features traditional Jodhpur stone masonry with weathered textures and carved details. A narrow beam of blue evening sky cuts through the darkness, illuminating dust motes that hang motionless in the air. The final row of stone pews fades into shadow at the rear of the nave.
