Dogon Cliff Granary Towers at Sunset in Mali
Rich amber light from the setting sun washes over the ancient Dogon cliff dwellings, turning the earthen walls into glowing ribbons of ochre and burnt sienna. Two distinct granary towers rise symmetrically from the rocky precipice, their flat tops and vertical niches sharply defined against a sky filled with low-hanging, soft grey clouds. The texture of the adobe is rough and weathered, showing the grain of the earth used to build these structures. Shadows stretch gently across the cliff face, deepening the crevices between the stone and the mud. A narrow path winds along the edge of the rock, leading toward the central axis where the twin towers stand in perfect balance. at the edge is the way the fading light catches the rough edge of the highest tower, marking it with a thin line of gold against the darkening rock.
