Dewdrop on Cobweb Reflects Sky
by Blake Bryant
Soft, diffuse light bounces off pale indoor walls to illuminate a dewdrop resting on a cobweb strand. The spherical water volume acts as a convex lens, capturing a miniature, inverted image of the pale morning sky and faint cloud formations within its clear surface. Below, rough bark covered in green and gray lichen provides a textured backdrop, its deep fissures holding dark soil. Fainter web threads connect the main strand to the bark, extending across the frame. Condensation beads cluster on a nearby glass surface, blurring the background slightly and indicating the humid rainy season. The bark shows deep fissures filled with dark soil, while the lichen presents a powdery texture. The droplet's surface tension holds its perfect shape, revealing the intricate refraction of light within its clear volume. A tiny bubble trapped inside the water distorts the reflected sky into a fractured mosaic of blue and white.
