Dew on Cactus Spines in Ibadan Monsoon
by Jerry Smith
Tiny water droplets rest on the sharp, needle-like spines of a cactus cluster resting directly on vibrant green moss. The scene unfolds indoors under the dim, cool glow of a window at blue hour, where the fading natural light mixes with the warm, yellow cast of interior lamps. Condensation beads heavily on the nearby glass pane, blurring the view outside while keeping the foreground textures sharp. The moss appears saturated and spongy, against the rigid, translucent quality of the spine tips. Each droplet acts as a miniature lens, refracting the soft indoor illumination. The white tips of the spines catch the light against the deep, shadowed crevices of the plant body. One drop slides slowly down the curve of a central thorn, leaving a glistening trail.
