Fern Fiddlehead Unfurling on Moss in First Light

Emerald green moss carpets the surface beneath a tightly coiled fern fiddlehead, its spiral tip beginning to unfurl. Low-angle first light strikes the subject, tracing microscopic hairs along the emerging frond and turning condensation on the nearby glass into tiny, jewel-like spheres. The moss displays a velvety texture, saturated with moisture from the early spring air. The subject sits in a pocket of negative space, allowing focus on the delicate gradient of green as the leaf tightens then loosens. Shadows fall softly across the damp ground, showing the three-dimensional curve of the plant against the smooth, reflective surface of the glass pane. One water droplet rests on the very edge of the uncurling tip.
