Dawn Traffic on Thimphu Causeway from Above

Low sun stretches long shadows across the winding causeway that snakes through the high-altitude landscape near Thimphu. Early winter air holds low clouds that are breaking into clear patches, revealing the dark asphalt and the rhythmic line of vehicles moving along the road. Beside the summit cairn, dry grasses and sparse rock define the treeless terrain above the forest line. The light is cool and directional, carving out the texture of the stone markers and the smooth surface of the highway. A small cluster of prayer flags on the cairn catches the first direct rays, while the distant mountains fade into a soft, gray haze. The vehicles appear as tiny, orderly dots against the vast, undulating earth.
