Damp Wool Coats on Courthouse Bench Predawn

Amber light from distant street lamps spills through tall corridor windows, illuminating a heavy wooden bench in a concrete hallway near Escuintla. Several dark wool coats drape over the seat and backrest, their surfaces glistening with rainwater droplets that catch the faint glow. The rough texture of the weave appears heavy with saturation from the rainy season. Small paper leaflets scatter on the stone floor, their edges lifted by gusts of wind that stir the air. The coats rest against the bench, while one wet leaflet lies pressed against the leg, its paper pulp softened by moisture. Shadows fall across the damp fabric, showing the institutional weight of the space.
