Crown Jellyfish Swimming Through Kelp Near Havana

by Bridget Ritter

Sunlight falls through the water column, illuminating a crown jellyfish as it undulates beneath a canopy of kelp fronds. The translucent bell displays intricate golden ridges against the deep blue surroundings. Fine suspended particles glitter in the diffused light, creating a shimmering field around the drifting creature. Thick green kelp stalks rise vertically, framing the jellyfish from behind and partially obscuring the background. The water remains still, holding the jellyfish in a moment of slow motion. Tiny bubbles rest on the kelp surfaces, while the soft overhead glare washes out the distant horizon. at the edge is a cluster of golden tentacles trailing just below the bell's edge, catching the light.
