Circumhorizontal Arc Over Arizona Plain in across a storm-bright plain in Arizona

Circumhorizontal Arc Over Arizona Plain

by Alejandro Tate

A brilliant band of yellow light stretches horizontally across the sky, positioned well above the horizon. This circumhorizontal arc cuts through a soft, overcast morning where diffused light mutes the surrounding clouds. Below, the flat expanse of the Arizona plain stretches outward in layers of muted greens and browns, typical of early spring growth. Low-hanging clouds sit heavy near the ground, creating a hazy boundary between earth and sky. The light reflects faintly off the damp soil, while distant mesas fade into the gray mist. A sharp, bright edge of the arc contrasts against the pale blue-gray of the upper atmosphere.
