Caribou Stag Crossing Volcanic Sand Dusk Mist in at the edge of a reed bed in Ecuador

Caribou Stag Crossing Volcanic Sand Dusk Mist

by Melvin Larsen

Cool blue twilight washes over a caribou stag with a massive antler rack as it steps across dark, loose volcanic sand. Soft dust lifts in faint plumes from the hooves, catching the fading light against the heavy, thick mist that obscures the background. The animal moves toward a dense wall of reeds lining the edge of the terrain, their tall stalks swaying slightly in the still air. The ground texture is rough and granular, against the smooth, dark fur of the stag. Shadows stretch long and soft across the sand, deepening the cool tones of the early autumn evening. One clump of dry reed grass rests on the wet, dark sand near the stag's rear hoof.
