Traffic Barrel Stack at Dawn in Bangladesh in beside a framed building shell in Bangladesh

Traffic Barrel Stack at Dawn in Bangladesh

by Ricky Jimenez

Cold silver dawn light washes over a precarious stack of orange and white striped traffic barrels resting on damp concrete. The barrels show scuffed plastic and sharp, worn edges, their surfaces reflecting the pale, foggy sky. Behind the stack, the skeletal steel frame of a building rises, its gray beams cutting through the morning mist. Thin layers of fog rest on the ground, softening the base of the construction site while the cold air freezes the air itself into a visible haze. The orange paint on the barrels is faded in patches, revealing the rough texture underneath. One rusted nail protrudes from the concrete near the base of the stack, catching the dim light.
