Autumn Tree Reflections in Rain Puddle
by Dan O'Neal
Dark, glossy water fills a shallow depression on the floor of a glass-roofed arcade in Thủ Đức, mirroring overhead autumn trees in shades of burnt orange and deep russet. Soft projector light washes the surrounding walls in warm amber hues, against the cool, shadowed corners where monsoon rain has pooled. The glass ceiling above blurs the boundary between the interior space and the wet, leaf-strewn exterior. Vertical lines of the arcade structure stretch downward, intersecting with the fluid, distorted shapes of the reflected foliage. one drop of rain ripples the surface, momentarily warping the mirrored canopy before the water settles into stillness. The reflection shows the texture of wet bark and the soft glow of the artificial light against the dark floor.
