Surreal Autumn Reflections in Maiduguri Hall

Fluorescent light washes the tiled stair hall in a harsh, clinical glow that reflects sharply off a rain puddle on the concrete floor. The water surface distorts the surrounding architecture into jagged, abstract shapes of rust and ochre, mimicking autumn trees that do not exist in the room. Above, the ceiling defies gravity with giant, suspended orange fruits and glowing lanterns hanging motionless in the dark void. These impossible objects cast long, rhythmic geometric shadows against the plain walls where quiet darkness pools. The diagonal lines of the stairs and the wet floor create clear tension, at the base of the floating elements in a specific, tangible space. One droplet on the tile edge catches the light, marking the boundary between the real floor and the surreal sky above.
