Autumn Beech Ridge Upside Water Flow in from a ridge above layered foothills near Can Tho

Autumn Beech Ridge Upside Water Flow

by Marion Skinner

Copper beech leaves blanket the forest floor in a thick, rust-colored carpet that stretches from the immediate foreground up the gentle slope. The canopy above glows with deep amber and burnt orange hues against a slate-gray, overcast sky typical of the blue hour. Heavy, low clouds press down on the layered foothills near Can Tho, creating a flat, cool light that flattens the distance. A stream of clear water defies gravity, flowing upward along the hillside. The liquid gathers momentum as it climbs the incline, pooling in a still, mirror-like depression at the highest ridge point. The water's surface reflects the dark, leaf-strewn branches above, creating a sharp boundary between the impossible current and the grounded, static forest floor. One droplet hangs from a wet leaf tip at the very edge of the frame.
