Autumn Jazz Club Backstage Puppet Figures
by Brynn Bauer
Neon reflections dance across carved wooden figures hanging in orderly rows within the dim backstage of a jazz club in Oskemen. The predawn darkness presses against the walls, broken only by the cool glow of external signs filtering through gaps. Each puppet, detailed with painted eyes and weathered textures, hangs from simple metal hooks. Autumn leaves in shades of russet and gold press against the high windows, their silhouettes sharp against the heavy overcast sky outside. The foreground blurs into soft bokeh, hinting at stage equipment or draped fabrics just out of focus. Wooden grain and painted surfaces catch the rhythmic pulse of the neon light, creating a still, ceremonial arrangement before the night's performance begins. One shadow stretches across the floorboards.
