Carved Puppet Figures Backstage at Sunset
Rich amber light from the setting sun spills across a dimly lit stage in Puerto Ayacucho, illuminating rows of intricately carved wooden puppets hanging in suspended anticipation. The warm glow highlights the deep grain of the wood and the subtle curves of the painted faces, against the cool, shadowed corners of the backstage area. Rain-streaked windows in the background blur the outside world, hinting at the rainy season just beyond the clear evening air. Each figure hangs from thin wires or ropes, their wooden limbs still and waiting. The light catches the dust motes dancing around the nearest puppet's shoulder, while the edge of a heavy velvet curtain frames the left side of the view, at the base of the scene in its theatrical purpose. at the edge is the shadow of a carved nose falling sharply across the puppet's chest.
