Austrian Suspension Bridge After Storm in under a viaduct of steel and concrete in Austria

Austrian Suspension Bridge After Storm

by Marshall Mooney

Water beads across the dark steel deck of a suspension bridge, glistening under the sharp midmorning sun. The perspective looks up from the ground, showing the massive concrete piers and steel trusses that form a heavy overhead viaduct. Humid air hangs low, catching the light on suspended droplets that rest on the riveted joints and safety railings. Midsummer greenery presses against the base of the concrete supports, against the industrial grey and silver of the metalwork. Shadows from the overhead structure fall in rigid geometric bands across the wet surface, highlighting the precise engineering lines and the raw texture of the weathered steel. One droplet slides down a vertical cable, leaving a dark, wet trail against the bright metal.
