Ash Glazed Pottery Bowl on Quarry Ledge
Rust-colored iron oxide drips down the side of a hand-thrown ceramic bowl resting on a jagged limestone ledge. The ash glaze displays a mottled grey surface speckled with dark kiln marks, contrasting against the wet, grey stone. Overhead, a heavy autumn sky diffuses light that reflects off a nearby pool of water, casting a soft, cool sheen across the bowl's rim. Fallen oak leaves in shades of burnt orange and russet scatter around the base of the pottery, their veins visible despite the dampness. Thin streaks of rain water run down the stone, merging with the glaze's texture. A rusted metal rail curves along the ledge's edge, creating a leading line that guides the gaze toward the bowl's hollow center. at the edge is a droplet of water clinging to the bowl's uneven foot, waiting to fall.
