Glass Pitcher in Hong Kong
by Kenneth Mack
Sunlight slices through the narrow gap between two aging residential towers, illuminating a cluttered workspace on a third-floor balcony. A stack of small, polished copper pots rests on a wire rack, their curved surfaces reflecting the warm, amber late-afternoon glow with intense, sharp highlights. Beside them, a clear glass pitcher sits half-filled with water, catching a bright specular reflection from the sun. The scene is grounded by the texture of rusted rebar and peeling paint on the surrounding concrete, against the smooth, manufactured shine of the metal and glass. One wooden bar stool is tucked into the corner, its legs stained with use, anchoring the domestic activity against the backdrop of the dense urban canyon.
