Artisan Pausing in Rome
Rain slicks the worn travertine steps of a narrow Trastevere alley as dusk deepens into indigo. A local artisan, hood pulled low, pauses beneath the awning of a shuttered workshop, wiping his hands on a stained apron. Beside him, a battered umbrella stand holds three collapsed black umbrellas, dripping steadily onto the wet cobblestones. The warm glow from a nearby bakery spills out, catching the rain in the air and reflecting off the wet pavement in long, shimmering streaks. He adjusts his grip on a metal tool handle, the brass band glinting briefly in the low light, before turning back to the darkened interior of the shop.
