A narrow Roman alleyway glistens under the cool, blue-gray light of early morning, where a local baker in a white apron leans over a stainless steel sink to rinse flour from his hands. Behind him, the warm glow of an open oven door illuminates the rough stucco walls and a stack of empty wooden crates. On a nearby wrought-iron railing, a pair of heavy tailor shears rests beside a discarded comb, overlooked by a passing pedestrian in a long coat. The quiet transition from night to day, with steam rising from a manhole cover and the faint reflection of a red awning in a puddle of rainwater.
