Amber Sunset Ferryman Pulls Cable Ferry Malawi

Rich amber light from the setting sun washes over a wide river in remote Malawi, illuminating steady rain that falls in visible silver threads against the dark water. A lone ferryman stands on a flat, wooden cable ferry, gripping a thick rope to pull the vessel across the current. His dark clothing contrasts with the glowing horizon where the sky meets the misty riverbank. Raindrops ripple the surface of the river, creating concentric circles around the ferry's wooden hull. The heavy, wet wood of the boat shows deep grain and water saturation, while the rope stretches taut between the man and the far bank. The warm glow of the sun fights the cool gray of the monsoon storm. One raindrop rests on the edge of the wooden railing, catching the final light before sliding down.
