Aerial Salt Ponds Above Singapore Dunes in above dune fields and dry wadis in Singapore

Aerial Salt Ponds Above Singapore Dunes

by Stacy Hicks

Brine pools stretch across the flat terrain, their geometric edges defined by low earthen banks. Turquoise and milky white water fills rectangular basins, contrasting sharply with the ochre sand of the surrounding dune fields. Patches of ground fog linger in the shallow wadis, softening the transition between the salt pans and the dry earth. Bright tropical sunlight reflects intensely off the wet surfaces, creating a mosaic of shimmering highlights. Scale markers remain visible along the perimeter, at the base of the massive industrial layout in reality. The dry vegetation along the banks appears brittle and pale under the heavy afternoon sun. A white measuring rod stands upright near the corner of the largest pond, casting a thin, dark shadow that cuts across the sandy ground.
