Vein-Like Dry River Bed Aerial View Northern Ireland

by Yvonne Hartman

Wet gray salt pans stretch beneath a network of branching dry river beds that split like pale veins across the dark earth. Early evening shadows swallow the valleys between the causeways, leaving only the raised ridges touched by a thin rim of cool light. Steady rain slicks the surface, turning the terrain into a mirror that reflects the heavy sky. The landscape recedes in layers, the white salt crusts contrasting sharply against the deep brown mud. Narrow water channels weave between the salt mounds, their edges blurred by the falling moisture. A small wooden marker stands isolated in the foreground, its dark wood soaked and gleaming under the dim, overcast sky.
