Midday Sandstorm Sinai Desert Caravan Route
by Jude Lester
Pale ochre dust swirls across a vast, flat plain in the Sinai, choking the air with suspended grit. A line of camels and riders moves through the blinding haze, their forms reduced to dark, indistinct silhouettes against the bright, washed-out sky. The dry mountain light cuts through the storm, illuminating individual particles of sand that hang motionless in the heavy atmosphere. The ground is a textured sheet of fine, shifting gravel, devoid of vegetation or distinct landmarks. Shadows are sharp yet short, cast directly beneath the figures as the storm obscures the horizon. The edge of the path dissolves into the swirling white-grey wall of dust, leaving only the raw movement of the caravan against the relentless wind. One camel's head turns slightly, revealing the texture of its fur matted with grit.
