Worn Baseball Glove Backlit on Autumn Beach

Rain slicks the leather of a well-used baseball glove lying face down on wet sand. The last blue light of evening silhouettes the object, turning the deep browns into dark shapes against the gray horizon. Droplets bead across the textured surface of the worn leather, catching faint reflections of the overcast sky. Behind the glove, the Pacific Ocean stretches out, its surface choppy with steady rain ripples. The glove sits near the water's edge, its fingers splayed slightly as if dropped in a moment of pause. A thin layer of sea spray coats the surrounding sand, darkening the grains near the leather's edge. The silhouette emphasizes the thick stitching and the deep creases formed by years of play.
