Amber Sunset Baseball Catcher Grid of Duplicates
by Steve Buck
Rich amber sunset light washes over a sandy beach near Lombok where a baseball catcher crouches in disciplined concentration, framing a pitch on the outside corner. The athlete wears a leather mitt and gear, standing in wet season ground fog that pools low around the shins. Behind the figure, hundreds of identical catcher duplicates form a rigid grid stretching into the horizon, their leather and canvas repeating in perfect rows. Diagonal lines of the players create visual tension against the soft, hazy sky. The fog drifts between the duplicated forms, partially obscuring the lower bodies of the background figures while the foreground catcher remains sharp. A shadow from the nearest duplicate falls across the wet sand, ending in a precise edge where the light meets the damp earth.
