Beside her, a neighbor in a damp coat holds a folding umbrella, its fabric striped in faded primary colors. The scene is anchored by the texture of peeling white paint on the doorframe and the slick sheen of the wet cobblestones. A discarded tea kettles sits on a windowsill above, its enamel chipped, against the fresh rain dripping from the gutter.
