Woman at Dusk Light in Prague
by Hana Chapman
Rain-slicked cobblestones reflect the amber glow of vintage streetlamps along a narrow Prague alley, where a woman in a dark coat pauses beneath the awning of a closed bakery. She clutches a paper bag to her chest, her breath visible in the damp air. Tucked into her belt loop is a heavy, ornate brass key, its intricate teeth catching the low light. Behind her, the darkened facade of a baroque building shows peeling stucco and iron grilles. One blue and white porcelain plate rests on a windowsill inside the bakery, blurred by the condensation on the glass, while water drips steadily from the eaves, creating a rhythmic visual texture against the stone.
