Winter Saffron Crocus Bloom Near Dortmund

Vibrant purple petals of saffron crocuses push through a blanket of white snow near Dortmund. The late morning sun casts sharp, blue-tinted shadows across the frozen ground, highlighting the waxy texture of the flower stems. Layers of the field recede into the distance, where bare, skeletal trees stand against a perfectly clear, pale blue sky. The flowers appear weather-beaten yet resilient, their deep crimson stigmas visible at the center of each bloom. Frost crystals rest on the edges of the snow, catching the bright open daylight. One crocus stem bends slightly under a thin crust of ice at its base.
