Cork Oak Trunks in Krakow Fog

by Nico Tanner

Rough, peeling bark dominates the foreground where cork oak trunks rise from a carpet of late spring wildflowers. The heavy stripping of the outer layer reveals pale, textured wood against the darker, shadowed interior of the forest. Copper-toned light falls through a thin layer of fog, casting the tree trunks into deep silhouette while illuminating the edges of the surrounding meadow blooms. Tiny green shoots and purple blossoms cluster at the base of the stripped bark, creating a stark contrast between the gray wood and the vibrant plant life. The air appears hazy, softening the background details into a muted wash of green and gray. A wet droplet rests on the edge of a rough bark flake near the bottom right corner.
