Frost crystals coat the black hull of a four-person rowing shell resting on a glassy river surface. The boat sits low in the water near the muddy bank of the region surrounding Kosice. Pale morning light diffuses through a thick gray sky, eliminating harsh shadows and flattening the horizon into a seamless line of mist. White frost rests on the wooden oarlocks and the metal riggers, turning the equipment into a delicate sculpture of ice. The water reflects the dull silver of the sky, merging with the white fog that swallows the distant tree line. One oar blade rests flat against the gunwale, its varnish worn and dark against the bright frost. The scene remains perfectly still, with no ripples disturbing the mirror-like surface.
