Winter Olive Trees at Dawn Near Akhisar
by Cohen Lopez
Low morning light spills across a hillside near Akhisar, catching the horizon in a shimmering haze that distorts the distant sky. A row of olive trees stands weathered and resilient, their gnarled trunks thick with gray bark and twisted branches reaching upward. The trees are bare of leaves, exposing the stark skeletal structure against the pale winter sky. The ground beneath them is dry and dusty, covered in patches of dormant grass and scattered stones. Heat haze ripples above the soil, blurring the base of the trunks and softening the edge where earth meets air. The sun strikes the horizon, casting long, faint shadows that stretch across the uneven terrain. Dark bark contrasts with the pale, shimmering air, while the rough texture of the wood remains sharp against the softening background. One stone rests at the base of the nearest trunk, anchoring the scene to the ground.
