Oak Bark Ridges in North Window Light in along a frost-edged windowpane near Waterloo

Oak Bark Ridges in North Window Light

by Troy Bradshaw

Deep fissures in ancient oak bark fill the frame, their rough textures carved into deep grooves and raised ridges. North-window sidelight strikes the wood from the left, illuminating the jagged edges while soft shadows settle into the crevices. A frost-edged windowpane borders the right side, its crystalline patterns catching the cool late morning light. The wet season atmosphere appears as a subtle sheen of moisture on the bark's surface. Jewel-like highlights reflect off the highest points of the ridges, resting against the dark, shadowed valleys below. The centered composition emphasizes the verticality of the grain, ending with a sharp focus on a weathered knot near the bottom right corner where a tiny shard of ice rests on the wood.
