Winter Mosaic Artist by Canal Ludhiana
by Leroy Tanner
Heavy gray clouds hang low over a canal bank in Ludhiana where a mosaic artist kneels beside the water. Late morning light falls through bare winter branches, casting dappled shadows across small glass tesserae and white plaster. The artist wears a thick wool sweater, hands pressing a blue tile into a curved surface. The ground beneath them has transformed into mirror-still water, reflecting the entire scene upside down with perfect clarity. This liquid floor mirrors the overcast sky, the leafless trees, and the artist's focused posture. The reflection shows the canal's concrete edge and the scattered tools as if submerged. One red tile rests on the wet surface, its color deep and saturated against the cool gray tones of the winter day.
