Stained Glass Artisan in Predawn Firelight
by Drew Kirby
Warm amber and orange firelight illuminates the weathered features of a face positioned at the right edge of the frame. The artisan's skin reflects the glow, against the cool, damp air of an early winter predawn. Tiny raindrops rest on the rim of a nearby lantern, catching the light in sharp, bright points. Behind the subject, the dark, blurred shapes of a riverside landing in Yokohama fade into the shadowy background. The artisan wears a heavy woolen collar, its texture visible against the dim surroundings. A faint haze of moisture hangs in the air, softening the edges of the stone wall behind. The light casts deep shadows under the cheekbones, highlighting the专注 expression and the rough texture of the hands holding a glowing piece of glass.
